Treefort Naturals is a local company created and run by a Connecticut mom of three. Jess and I met through a local playgroup and I am so thrilled to know her. She and I have a lot in common in regards to lifestyle and running a business from home while also being a full time momma and homemaker. I had the pleasure of going to her home a few weeks ago to photograph her “in her craft”. Spending time watching an artist working their craft inspired me to start a new project! Details on that very soon.

How did you get started with your company? How did you come up with your name, Treefort Naturals?
I started making soap as part of a lifestyle overhaul. Partly driven by a need to save money, I found ways to make my own things…laundry detergent, bread, household cleaners, soap, etc.. As I researched & experimented, I realized how much better these simple homemade recipes were for my family and the environment. I became an avid label reader and was pretty horrified by the ingredients in everyday commercial products. At the same time I also became completely obsessed with making soap! When I had made more than I could ever possibly use or give away, I thought it might be a good idea to try to sell a few bars. The name “Treefort” seemed to fit just right and reflect my style and mission. To me, the pure and simple goodness of the “wonder of the woods” embodied what I wanted my little company to be all about.
Tell us about your products and how they are made.
All of my products are made from scratch with 100% natural & vegetarian ingredients. Organic & local ingredients are a top priority and are used as much as possible. Soap is made the old fashioned way with the cold process method and cured for a minumum of 4 weeks. You will never find fragrance, dyes or preservatives in any of my products.
