Shannon + Paul’s September Wedding on Connecticut Shoreline

Connecticut Shoreline Wedding

September is one of the most beautiful times of the year in Connecticut.   The Connecticut shoreline boosts breathtaking views and beautiful beaches and waterfront parks.     Shannon invited me to her parent’s home to capture the details of her preparations before heading to Grace Church in Old Saybrook, Connecticut.  This family is full of joy and love and complete adoration for one another.  I am grateful to work with such kind and warm-hearted families like Shannon and Paul’s.  After celebrating the beginning of their marriage in Old Saybrook, we all headed out to the shoreline a quick stop before heading to Amarante’s in New Haven, Connecticut for their wedding reception.  Guests are welcomed to an outdoor cocktail hour sunset with steel drum entertainment and a waterfront view.  Laughter, dancing, toasts, and memories that will last for years to come.

Congratulations to Shannon and Paul!

Karen: Courageous Survivor and Fighter

I meet one of the strongest women I have had the pleasure of being introduced to in my many years as a photographer.  Karen is a beautiful free spirited woman who loves life and has red-headed tenacity.  Karen married her long time sweetheart and together, they are parents of twin girls who are full of spunk, laughter, and pure beauty.   The four of us took a stroll through the woods on an incredible autumn day and celebrated their family together in nature.

Karen loves music and appreciates a day outside enjoying the fresh air.  She has an eye for art and good craftsmanship.  She is a loyal friend and an incredible listener.  She carries herself with a lovely warm energy that is caring and very maternal.  Karen is  a courageous survivor and fighter.  She conquered breast cancer with strength and grace.  Now, she is taking-cancer-down with a confident fight.  I was introduced to Karen from her friend, Shawn.  Shawn is another one of those incredible women that has came into my life to show me what courage and strength are all about.

I am paying it forward.  I am giving back to women who have been through the fight.  Women who reevaluate life as a spouse, mother, sister, and friend.  If you have been dealt the card of cancer in your life, I want to celebrate your courage, your love, your family, your support system.  I know what it’s like to have to put your health first, even though your heart may say differently.  I was introduced to these two women because of an organization, that sadly no longer exists called the Magic Hour, which created a community of photographers who donate portrait sessions to patients and families affected by cancer.

If you would like to introduce me to an amazing cancer-fighter-veteran in your life, please contact me.

I raise a glass this New Year’s Eve to Karen and her family, Shawn and her family, and my dear friend Tom and Abby’s family.  To Hope, Courage, Challenge, Strength, and Love.

Wedding Weekend at The Guilford Yacht Club (Connecticut)

Kerry grew up in one of my favorite Connecticut towns.  Guilford is classic New England and reminds me of my childhood.  The historic architecture, the rolling hills of farmland, local orchards, Christmas tree farms, concerts on the green, and the summer craft festival.  The community is rooted in tradition and history and it was great to photograph a family that loves the town and cherishes the memories growing up in it as much as I do.

I’ve mentioned my fun new questions to find out more about my clients.  The ice cream question is always a HUGE help in finding out more about personalities.  Tom’s favorite, mint chocolate chip….good man!  Kerry, chocolate chip cookie dough….my personal favorite.  But when it comes to favorite food, Tom-chicken, Kerry-chocolate….my kind of people.  Keep it simple and to the point!

Their wedding was simple and classic.  There were hidden details throughout and fun was had by all as we were treated to the most amazing outdoor ceremony by the water.  Perfect way to celebrate a summer holiday on the shoreline.  In the hours leading up to the ceremony, I met up with the girls for getting ready photographs, followed by a stroll on the green.  Two iconic local shops, The Village Chocolatier and Breakwater Books, were the backdrop for fun photos with the bride and her closest girlfriends.

The Guilford Yacht Club welcomed guests through the open foyer into the reception area which is decorated in candle light and soft pastel linens.  Out through the glass doors, guests are seated at the ceremony site overlooking the sea grass and horizon.  Kerry’s vision is shared here:

Our general style is simple and elegant. The colors are white and light grey, with grass green and coral accents. I also incorporated stripes. I wanted the decor to be summery and bright, but with a New England feel (hopefully I accomplished that!). The food and drinks will be fresh and light. Our wedding day will consist of our ceremony, reception, and then an informal after-party at Augur’s Pub in Guilford.

And it was just that!  I think Kerry did a great job conveying her vision for the day she said “I do” to her sweetheart Tom.  The two are one of the loveliest and nicest couples.  Best wishes to you both!
